Celebrities have many unusual requirements when they are performing or traveling, but Katy Perry might just have the most unusual one yet. She tweeted out that she dined at a “#fancy” restaurant on a fish that had, get this, acupuncture?! Holy mackerel.
Had the best sushi/wagyu from @ChefAntonioPark The wagyu was flown in this morning from JPN & the fish had previously had acupuncture #fancy

So the fish has to get the star treatment before a celebrity can chow down? Sounds fishy. We’ve heard of FIN-icky eaters, but this is ridiculous!
So what’s the deal? There has to be a logical explanation, and, as it turns out, there is.
According to The Globe and Mail, the chef of the restaurant where Katy dined, Antonio Park, is a sushi expert. He helped develop a technique of “fish acupuncture” to help maintain the freshness of fish imported from Japan, which entails “needles deftly inserted into live fish to paralyze and render the animal senseless for the voyage to dinner tables around the world.”
“Freshness is about the search for purity in the taste of the fish,” explains Park. “You want to taste the maximum flavour from the fish, where the true palate comes from.”
For the “Dark Horse” singer, only the freshest fish will do.
